My Lilly for Target experience

lilly for target

Lilly pulitzer for target launched this morning, and It was like Black Friday for all the preppy girls! Everybody seems to have their opinions about this line, and I wanted to share mine, and my experience with you guys!

When I first heard about the line I was really Excited! I love lilly, I love target, so the fact that they were coming together for a limited time was super exciting! I didn’t, and still don’t understand all the people that were upset that the collaboration would cheapen the brand. Target is known for it’s collaborations with well know designers, and not to burst anyones bubble, but Lilly Pulitzer isn’t a super exclusive line! It is available in department stores, and while it is pretty expensive, there are ways to get it at more affordable prices. I looked at the look book online the morning that it was released, and I thought the stuff was cute, but honestly there wasn’t anything that I absolutely needed in my life! I love clothes, but clothes are just things, and I think as a society we need to start understanding that there are more important things in the world, but thats another rant for day!

This morning my mom and I went to target. we goy there at about 7:55am. I knew that most of the stuff online had been sold out and was already posted on ebay for a ridiculous amount. We waited in line and even though I felt a little silly when the doors opened I made a beeline to the clothing along with the rest of the crowd!

The nice part about going to school in Oklahoma is that Lilly Pulitzer isn’t as big of a deal here as it is when you go farther south, and people in Oklahoma are just nicer that most! We got a really nice selection of thing in our store, including some plus size shift dresses that were only supposed to be available online! Nobody was taking cart fulls of things to sell on ebay, and everybody was being nice if they had something that wasn’t their size, or didn’t fit after they tried it on. The racks did clear pretty quickly, but my target didn’t put all the inventory they got out at once, so they kept replenishing the displays. I actually ended up buying way to many things! I haven’t bought any spring or summer clothing items yet, so thats how I’m justifying my purchases 🙂

The quality of the Items was Target quality, not Lilly quality, but considering that the line was sold at target I’m not sure why people are complaining! As a college student, I buy a lot of my clothes from target, and the shifts were actually a lot nicer than I expected them to be! I wear a size 14, and Lilly shift are not super flattering on me, so I’m so excited to finally have one that fits! I have to get it taken in, but that doesn’t bother me! I also got a cute little sun dress, some tops, and a pair of shorts! I had a really wonderful experience with this collection!

I hope you all have a great sunday!

#20beautifulwomen

New #20beautifulwomen header

There is a new tagging challenge floating around the instagram universe that you’ve probably seen by now, it’s the #20beautifulwomen challenge. The Rules to this challenge are pretty simple, once you’re tagged you are supposed to post a picture of your self where you feel beautiful, and then tag 20 other woman to do the same. I usually ignore these types of posts, and I’m hardly ever tagged in any of the things that go around, but I’ve been tagged to do this challenge three times in the past 24 hours, and its really made me think about the difference between looking beautiful and feeling beautiful.

The rules of the challenge clearly state that you are supposed to post a picture where you FEEL beautiful, not look beautiful. Now, feeling beautiful and looking beautiful are not the same! I have over 1000 pictures of myself saved onto my laptop, but I only have 63 Pictures of myself on my instagram account! When I post a picture on instagram I want to make sure its a picture that I look beautiful in, and I consider that to be pretty normal! Most girls my age don’t want ugly, awkward, or embarrassing pictures of themselves floating around the internet!

However, I have noticed that most of my favorite pictures, ones that I feel the most beautiful in just hang out on my computer. these are the pictures where the lighting is awful, my hair is everywhere, my smile is doing funky things, or that were taken at awkward times! These pictures are also the ones where I am the happiest! They have great memories attached to them, hanging out with friends, vacationing with my family, and even though they may not be instagram worthy, they are some of my favorite pictures of myself!

These are the pictures where I feel the most beautiful, but I don’t necessarily feel like I look it, and thats ok! I’m not a supermodel, and I’m not photo ready all the time! I have acne, I hate doing my hair if I don’t have to, and I still can’t figure out how to take a decent selfie!

This past weekend I went home to see one of my favorite people in the musical at my old high school. After the show ended the cast is always in the hallway outside the auditorium to take pictures with family and friends, and mingle with the audience. When we finally saw each other for the first time in months we both broke into the most ridiculously wonderful eruption of screams and crying! We had both missed each other so much, and we just couldn’t help it! of course, we had to take a picture together, and this was the first picture we took…

IMG_0302

This picture was taking about 30 seconds after we had stopped crying, and although we both look so happy, it was deemed not good enough for instagram, so we took two more about 20 min later…

IMG_0307IMG_0308I ended up posting the third one to instagram, even though my friend wanted the First do-over picture, I thought my shoulders looked to awkward in the one that she wanted, so I chose the last one. Awkward shoulders and crying eyes stopped me from putting the pictures that I felt more beautiful in, and the more that I look at the 3 pictures right net to each other, I realize that they really aren’t all that different!

After overanalyzing this whole entire challenge, I’ve decided to challenge myself to post more of the “awkward” pictures that I actually feel beautiful in, because if I feel beautiful, and I feel like I look beautiful than it shouldn’t matter how many likes I get, because I like the picture, and thats the only like that matters!

My Five year Journal

IMG_0264

When I was little, my Grandma was the worlds greatest journal keeper. She would write in her journal every day before she went to bed, after she took her nightly bath. She always used five year journals, and everybody in my family thought it was the coolest thing that she could turn to any date, and tell us everything that she did on that day three years earlier! My dad and I were especially captivated by the concept of a five year journal, and he always told me that he wished he could find one somewhere so that I could start keeping one! We’d talked about them for years, but we never found one!

Right before winter break I went to Target with one of my friends. She was looking for an agenda to give to her mom for christmas, and I hadn’t been to target for two days and needed to make sure it was still there! We were wandering around the office supply aisles when I stumbled upon this little book! I had finally found a five year journal!

I started it on January 1st, and Its crazy to think that by the time that book is filled I’ll be finished with my undergraduate degree, and off doing who knows what with my life! the book is small enough to carry in my purse, and I’m really hoping that I’m able to keep up with it!

Wish me luck for the next five years!

Pursuing Pinterest: Macarons

People who know me know that I have a pinterest problem! Pursuing Pinterest is my attempt at bring my pinterest homepage into my real life!

IMG_0148

Macarons are definitely having a moment, and I have no problem with it! These pretty french cookies are popping up everywhere! My favorite place to get them is Petite Sweets in Houston, but I’ve always really wanted to try to make them!

Macarons are known for being super persnickety, so before I started I did my research by watching a couple of youtube videos and reading through a few recipes. I decided to follow this one, for the sole reason that it was the first one I clicked on, and the blog gave a lot of helpful tips on how to make sure that your macaron turn out! However, the measurements were done using the metric system, with the american measurements in parenthesis. This made my life a little more difficult, and I probably should have found an easier to follow recipe!

Something people don’t tell you about making macarons are that they are messy! I’ve never used a piping bag before, and it’s not as easy as the food network makes it seem! Right after I pulled the cookies out of the oven I went out to meet up with some high school friends for coffee, and they kindly pointed out that I had pink in my hair! I can’t imagine how that happened, but I’m not surprised, My whole kitchen was pink!

The Macarons tasted delicious, and all the effort was definitely worth it! I’m going to try to make another batch before I go back to school! IMG_0133 IMG_0136 IMG_0147

I hope everybody had a great Tuesday!
